Mr Asher is using a chaff cutter. The chaff-cutter was used to chop up gorse to make a nutritious but prickly animal fodder.
Charlie Poulton of Woodgreen was still making eel traps in the early 1930s, at the age of 90. The traps were made of split hazel wands and were set in the drawns (water channels) of the Avon watermeadows. Eels caught in Woodgreen were sent by train to London.

Hello. looking through the website I am fascinated by the photo of Mr & Mrs Ings which was from c1930, as my Grandfather, Neat Ings was born in the 1890’s in the area, and I am intrigued whether the picture is a direct relation to him. Neat moved to Poole and married Edith Yeatman, and had 6 children. I am the son of the third child. Only one of Neat’s children is still alive. Any additional information would be appreciated.
